Outlet is looking for volunteers to support our work with LGBTQQ youth. Browse the opportunities below and contact Eileen with questions or request for an application. * All volunteers must complete required intake process before attending any meetings. If interested in observing a meeting, please contact a staff member to schedule an appointment.

  • DIRECT SERVICE

    Friends of Outlet Group Mentoring
    Interact with Outlet youth and other adults through fun, structured activities designed to build positive relationships between youth and adults. Groups meet the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month in a supervised setting.
    TRAINING: TBA
    TIME: 2 hour group meetings up to two times per month
    COMMITMENT: 1 group per month for 6 months
    LOCATION: Mountain View

    HYPE - HIV Youth Prevention Education Program -A Young Men's group.

    Adult Peer Leader
    Provide support and guidance for peer youth leaders of this group specifically tailored for gay, bi, downe, queer and questioning young men. Help facilitate meetings to build community and education around HIV/STD's and relationships.

    TRAINING: TBA
    TIME: 10 hours per month
    COMMITMENT: 6 months to one year
    LOCATION: Mountain View

    Guest Speaker
    Share your story or skills with youth in one of our groups. We are looking for people who can talk about being transgender, dealing with addiction, participating in gay rights activism, and more.
    TRAINING: Initial planning meeting
    TIME: 1-hour presentation plus prep time
    COMMITMENT: 1 or more presentations.

  • PUBLIC RELATIONS

    Outlet Ambassador
    Represent the Outlet Program and be the official liaison to other LGBT organizations. By attending their meetings and maintaining regular contact with Outlet staff, you can be critical to the successful communication and support of the local LGBT community.
    TRAINING: 1 hour training
    TIME: 2-4 hours per month
    COMMITMENT: 1 year

  • FUNDRAISING

    Out To Eat Planning Committee
    Give back to your community, meet new people and use your party planning skills to help organize Outlet's 10th Anniversary Fundraiser. We need folks with strong experience and/or interest in corporate fundraising, marketing, ticket selling, and general event planning.

    TRAINING: Initial information session.
    TIME: 5-12 hours per month starting December/January 2007. (Additional time as needed.)
    COMMITMENT: 4 months

    House Party Host
    An easy, one-time opportunity to raise money for Outlet and increase awareness of the program. Invite a group of your friends and colleagues over for a fun party, tell them to bring their checkbooks, and make the pitch. Outlet can provide youth speakers.
    TRAINING: Initial planning meeting
    TIME: 4-6 week planning time.
    COMMITMENT: 1 or more parties
  • ADMINISTRATIVE

    Sustainability Work Group
    Join this group of committed adult volunteers to work on issues of sustainability for Outlet including infrastructure development, productizing, and other objectives.
    TIME: 3-10 hours per month
    COMMITMENT: 1 year
    LOCATION: Mountain View

    Marketing Work Group
    Contribute your marketing experiences and skills to develop and expand our current efforts. Focuses include producing marketing materials, PR, and other critical strategies for increasing awareness and brand name recognition.
    TIME: 3-10 hours per month
    COMMITMENT: 1 year
    LOCATION: Mountain View

    Steering Committee
    Join the Outlet leadership team by serving on our Steering Committee. The committee provides guidance in the development, management, and strategic direction of Outlet. By insuring fiscal solvency, quality programming, and awareness of Outlet services, you can significantly impact the lives of LGBTQQ youth.
    TIME: 2-8 hours per month
    COMMITMENT: 1 year
    LOCATION: Mountain View


IMPORTANT NOTICE
All volunteers directly working with youth must pass our multi-point screening including:

1) Completed volunteer application
2) In-person interview
3) DMV record check and proof of car insurance (if driving youth is required)
4) State and Federal Criminal Background Check
5) Reference checks
6) Signed volunteer contract
7) Completion of appropriate training
